Win Over Espanyol Is A Weight Off Our Shoulders - Atletico Madrid Defender Luis Perea
The defender believes his team now has a template for success...
The 4-0 thumping of the Blanc I Blau at the Vicente Calderon was the first win for Los Colchoneros in the league under new coach Quique Flores, and the Colombian stopper says that the clean sheet should be a cornerstone of their performances from now on.
Atleti still linger dangerously close to the relegation places and have work to do if they are to achieve their ambition of Champions League football for next season, and Perea wants his team to use their performances against Espanyol last weekend and in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea in the Champions League, as a model for success.
"I think the win was needed, the team was suffering more than necessary, and none of us could go another game without collecting all three points. It is true that the in has taken a big weight off," Perea told a press conference.
"That has always been our intention, to begin collecting wins, but with a clean sheet. We have some problems there, but what makes me happiest is that the team is more compact, playing more in unison. I think about the games against Chelsea and Espanyol where the team has worked very well in every area."

“I said to Ibrahimovic not to use his hands (in reference to slapping a Napoli player at the weekend) and only his feet – he did that tonight.
“He reminded me of Van Basten, whom I am very happy for with his new job at Heerenveen.
“As for the future, we already have a great coach in Allegri and we're very happy with him. I speak to him and give him suggestions as I did with all my previous coaches.
“Champions League or Scudetto? We will try to win everything, and I think we can do just that. We had a lot of injuries, but we have a big squad, so we should be able to compete on all fronts.”
And now we have some reaction from San Siro, courtesy of our man in the field Sergio Stanco...
Meanwhile, Tonde Chitonho has asked Thierry Henry to take Arsene Wenger back to the US with him!
And on the subject of Henry, Rizky Ferdiansyah humorously added: “King Henry couldn't beat the Prince Boateng!”
Joel Peeperkoorn feels that Arsenal should rest their big guns in the second leg, saying: “There's no way we can beat Milan by five goals."
Jez Cook, however, takes a different perspective, singing himself back to positivity: “FIVE FOUR we're gunna win five four we're gunna win five four we're gunna win five four ....FIVE FOUR we're gunna win five four we're gunna win five four we're gunna win five four ...FIVE FOUR - just keep repeating it.”
Well, you have to admire his fighting spirit...
Incidentally, no team has ever progressed in Europe after losing the first leg by such a heavy deficit.
