Barcelona President Joan Laporta Keen To Hold On To Yaya Toure
Laporta has made it clear that Toure is going nowhere...
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has downplayed the rumours that holding midfielder Yaya Toure is on his way out of Camp Nou in order to get regular first team football elsewhere.
The Ivorian midfielder was left out of Barcelona's starting XI for Sunday's game against Real Madrid and Toure was far from happy with head coach Josep Guardiola's decision.
"My situation is astonishing. I have to take a personal decision about all this," he told France Football after the win against Madrid. "I need more minutes because I am not playing enough. But the coach is the one that has to decide if I play or not."
Teams such as Chelsea, Manchester City and Inter were all alerted by Toure's remarks, but Laporta has now made it clear that he wants the former Monaco star to stay in Catalonia.
"Toure's an important player and we have achieved great results with him on the pitch. I'm a big fan of Yaya Toure," said Laporta to reporters.
"Toure's words are typical of a high-class footballer who wants to do his utmost to help the team, so you have to interpret his remarks positive. I expect Toure to play at Barcelona for many years to come, because no one is thinking about getting rid of him."
