Barcelona's Victor Valdes in action for his side as he screams commands to his players
Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes played a key role for the Spanish champions in their 1-0 win against Real Madrid in el Clasico on Sunday night, and he is understandably happy with the result.

"We are pleased with how the game went. The one-on-one with Cristiano [Ronaldo] fortunately went in our favour," he told AS, referring to the save he made from the Portuguese star early on in the match.

"We expected a brave Real Madrid who would come to play a good game on the counter-attack, because they have good players to do so," he mused.

With a number of Ballon d'Or nominees on show at the Camp Nou, Valdes believes last night's game showed why the Primera Division stands head and shoulders above the likes of the Premier League and Serie A.

"It says a lot about the Spanish league. It's the best league in the world and that's why the best players want to come and play here," he declared.

The Blaugrana are in action again in the league on Wednesday night against Xerez, and the 'keeper doesn't want to write off the league's basement side as "any team can give you problems."
