Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos says his side deserved better after they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Barcelona in El Clasico at Camp Nou.

A solitary strike from Zlatan Ibrahimovic ten minutes after the interval was enough for the Blaugrana to grab all three points as Madrid were left to rue missed chances

"Real Madrid has done more than Barcelona, especially in the first half. After so much work and sacrifice, we have come away with a defeat when we deserved more," he told the Spanish press afterwards.

"In the first half we found the space to do damage to Barca, the pity was that we didn't take our chances. We respect the views but we ignore any flattery or the criticism we receive."

Ramos also said that his team can go with their heads held high after their performance at Camp Nou.

"Despite the fact that we lost we played well. We're proud of the way we played at Camp Nou and will go with our heads held high," he said.
