Real Madrid director general Jorge Valdano said his team deserved more luck after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Barcelona in El Clasico at Camp Nou.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic came off the bench to grab the only goal of the game ten minutes into the second half to condemn Madrid to their second league defeat of the season.

"We've had the best game we've had in a long time and we had enough chances on goal, we're satisfied," he said afterwards as quoted by AS.

"It was a good match with both teams very ambitious and both had goal chances. We deserved better luck than we had.

"The team has shown great maturity in a very difficult field. We're very pleased with the performance of the players, who have taken the initiative for large parts of the game and have given a good display, but we want to win every time."

The defeat leaves Madrid two points adrift of Barca in second place in the Primera Liga after 12 games played.
