Official: Ernesto Chevanton Joins Atalanta On Loan From Sevilla
The Uruguayan is looking for first team football with the Orobici and has already joined up with his new team-mates...
Sevilla striker Ernesto Javier Chevanton has joined Atalanta on loan for six months, although he will not be able to play for his new side until the transfer window reopens.
The Spanish club's official website stated that the move will be effective from January 2, 2010, but that they have given the Uruguayan permission to train with his new team-mates.
The 29-year-old explained that he was sorry to have to leave los Nervionenses, but he needs to depart in order to play regularly and pursue his dream of playing in the World Cup.
"[I am] a bit sad, because I am leaving Sevilla where I didn't have the opportunity to play. I would have liked to stay and have a bit more confidence, but that wasn't the way," he said.
"It is going to be an important year for me, because Uruguay have qualified for the World Cup and I talked with the coach, and he said that if I had continuity then I would be able to play with the national team. He said that I needed to play, that he needed to see me play.
"I have to highlight the affection of the people of Seville, who have always given me a lot of love. Everyone knows that I would die for Sevilla, unfortunately I was not able to succeed, but I will always be linked in a special way because of the fans. I will always be grateful and hold the team in my heart."
Atalanta have an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season. It is not the first time Chevanton has plied his trade in Italy, having previously enjoyed a successful stint with Lecce.
