Barcelona president Joan Laporta has insisted that even if Lionel Messi cannot play tonight against Inter, he will be with the team in spirit.

"I know that he wants to play, he has been improving since his injury, although it was very recent," he affirmed to Sport.

"I don't know if he will be able to play or not, but what's clear is that his spirit will help to fight for the victory."

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has also been struggling with an injury recently - it ruled him out of last weekend's draw against Athletic Bilbao - and Laporta believes that the Swede is "an equally important player for the team".

Despite the potential absences and the importance of the game in terms of their Champions League progression, the president believes that the squad are in high spirits.

"The team are full of confidence. [Coach Pep Guardiola] deserves all the credit because he has already shown his ability during the good times and the bad times," he said.

Laporta added that the supporters must be behind the team "from the first minute of the game", which will be "one of the great nights of European football".
