Barcelona's Pep Guardiola: Champions League Qualification Was Always Going To Be Tough

The Blaugrana coach was under no illusions that making it out of the group would be simple...

Pep Guardiola is not surprised that Barcelona are still playing for their place in the knockout stage of the Champions League. He expects a tough challenge against Inter.

Pundits and fans may have thought that the two sides playing in Camp Nou on Tuesday evening would ease through the first phase, but the Blaugrana coach never thought it would happen.

The winner of Barca-Inter will take a huge stride towards the next round, while the reigning European champions could be eliminated if they lose and Rubin Kazan win.

"I always thought the group would only be decided in the last two games," Guardiola told a press conference ahead of the game.

"We need about four points and I think we can do it."

Despite that prediction, Guardiola admitted that his side face a stern challenge.

"We're facing a great team, the leaders of Serie A, who have a world-class coach," he continued.

"[Jose] Mourinho can make his team play in several ways; he uses different tactics so we have to be prepared."
