Malaga midfielder Apono has admitted to a racial slur on Real Zaragoza striker Ewerthon during their 1-1 draw at the Rosaleda on Sunday.

The 25-year-old said that he abused the Zaragoza player, who scored from the penalty spot in the game, after the Brazilian had insulted his mother.

"It happened after he insulted my mother and in truth that motivated me to say what I said," Apono told AS.

This latest incident is proof that the problem of racism in Spanish football is not restricted to the stands, where the supporters of some clubs having a reputation for regular abuse of black players.

Former Barcelona star Samuel Eto'o famously threatening to walk off the pitch in a Primera Liga tie against Real Zaragoza at La Romareda during the 2005/06 season after being taunted by the home support.
