La Liga Team Of The Week: Round 11

A new formation and eleven new players for the Team of the Week after the latest round of games...

Villarreal's Nilmar continues his hot scoring run versus Valladolid (MARCA)
Formation: 4-5-1

Goalkeeper

Tono (Racing Santander): Made a string of saves to ensure that his team had a chance of taking something from a game that they were always in. While the Cantabrians had little effect going forward their keeper stood out at the other end.

Defenders

Dani Alves (Barcelona): The Blaugrana may have taken their foot off the pedal once he scored, but the Brazilian took his goal superbly as he controlled a pass from Xavi before slotting it beyond Gorka Iraizoz.

Diego Colotto (Deportivo): While contending with the impressive Sergio Aguero at one end, the Argentinian central defender stole forward to net the equaliser for the Galicians and set up a good win to keep them in the top four.

Cata Diaz (Getafe): Espanyol's fans produced the white handkerchiefs for the first time during Manolo Pochettino's spell as coach, but they could have been cheering on a win if it had not been for the outstanding central defender at the back for the visitors.

Royston Drenthe (Real Madrid): He played further forward for Los Merengues but given the competition for place in the Team of the Week he is at left-back. Had one of his best performances in a white shirt since joining the club from Feyenoord.

Midfielders

Yaya Keita (Xerez): The league's bottom team have been much-maligned this term, but their battling performance to earn a point against Sporting Gijon on Sunday was largely down to an inspirational display by the on-loan Mali midfielder.

Carlos Marchena (Valencia): Against an Osasuna side that battled and worked hard throughout, the veteran performer stayed strong and was one of the stars of the visiting team as they swept to victory in the Reyno de Navarra.

Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid): Pundits unanimously agreed that the team sorely missed the playmaker when he was injured and his performance against Racing showed just why as he was a controlling influence in another game where the hosts did not shine consistently.

Chori Castro (Real Mallorca): A midfield performance to remember as the Uruguayan scored twice and was influential throughout as the Balearic outfit beat Almeria to stay in the European places.

Didier Zokora (Sevilla): Since moving to Spain, the Ivory Coast midfielder has grown in stature and now looks an even better player than he ever was during his time at Tottenham Hotspur.

Forwards

Nilmar (Villarreal): The Brazilian only moved to El Madrigal in the summer but he is already proving to be a fans' favourite. His brace at the weekend helped the Yellow Submarine to put their woeful start to the campaign behind them.
