'CR9' is hoping to be able to play next week in El Clasico...

Cristiano Ronaldo enjoys Real Madrid training alongside team-mate Raul
Cristiano Ronaldo continued his quest to be fully fit for Real Madrid's trip to Barcelona next weekend as he trained on Sunday away from the first team squad once again.

The Portuguese star has missed Los Merengues' last nine competitive games with an ankle injury, but is tantalisingly close to making a return with el Clasico just days away.

After watching Madrid from the stands as they moved back to the top of the table on Saturday, Ronaldo was at the Valdebebas training complex the following morning
to be put through his paces.

Working with a fitness coach alongside Lassana Diarra, the forward did physical and muscle-toning work-outs as he bids to rediscover his fitness.

All the players that began the game against Racing Santander the evening before had a relaxed session as they warmed down while looking ahead to the Champions league encounter against FC Zurich on Wednesday.

Guti and Ruud van Nistelrooy both worked in the gym as they looked to recover from knocks, while C team goalkeeper Tito was promoted to traing with Iker Casillas and Jerzy Dudek.
