Atalanta coach Antonio Conte has refused to be drawn on rumours linking his side with Sevilla striker Javier Chevanton, but reports in the Spanish press suggest that an agreement is close.

Chevanton has had an injury-plagued spell in Andalucia, with the result that he has failed to hold down a place in the matchday squad under either Juande Ramos or Manolo Jimenez.

Moreover, the recent addition of Alvaro Negredo to a front line that also features Luis Fabiano and Frederic Kanoute has pushed the 29-year-old even further down the pecking order at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

The Uruguayan is eager for a way out, and Atalanta now hold the key. AS report that the Orobici are close to agreeing a loan deal with los Rojiblancos which would see Chevanton join the Italian side from January 1 until the end of the season.

There would also be an option to make the transfer permanent. It is not thought that the fee would be excessive, as Chevanton's contract expires in 2011 and los Nervionenses are eager to offload the striker.
