Benfica Interested In Atletico Madrid Winger Simao Sabrosa - Report
The Eagles are reportedly plotting a bid for the winger...
The 30-year-old departed Benfica in the summer of 2007 for a fee of €20 million to pursue his career abroad but he still holds legendary status at the Estadio da Luz after six years with the club.
Simao has never hidden his wish to return to Benfica at some point in his career, and news daily Record indicates the Eagles are planning a summer move for the diminutive winger.
Benfica star Angel di Maria has been strongly linked with a new challenge at the end of the season, and it is believed Simao is regarded by the Portuguese giants as the perfect replacement for the Argentina international.
He is one of the highest-paid players at the Vicente Calderon, but reports in Portugal suggest Simao would consider a significant pay cut to return to the club he joined from Barcelona in 2001.
The money for the transfer to go through would not be an issue for Benfica, as they are expected to bank €40 million with Di Maria's summer sale amid reported interest from Premier League clubs in the youngster.
