After Barcelona failed to beat Russian champions Rubin Kazan in either of their Champions League fixtures, their progression from the group stage is far from certain.

As a result, defender Gerard Pique has admitted to Marca that it is "more important" for the Blaugrana to progress in Europe than it is to beat Real Madrid.

"The game with Real Madrid is a derby and it's very important to win it, but we are playing for our future in Europe against Inter," Pique explained in a press conference.

"A team that wants to win titles has to perform against the biggest sides," he added.

However, Pique did not want to speak further about next week's clash and told the gathered journalists to "ask about Athletic Bilbao".

Barcelona beat the Basque side both in last season's Copa del Rey final and in the Spanish Supercopa, and believes that they will be out for revenge at San Mames.

"When a team wins so many titles against you, you start to dislike them a bit and I'm sure that they will go out and do everything to reverse the situation.

"They are a team that plays direct football, with a very potent aerial game. We will have to be very careful."
