As Spain prepare for tonight's friendly with Austria at the Ernst Happel Stadion, memories of la Seleccion's Euro 2008 victory have come flooding back for many of the protagonists.

Luis Aragones, the coach who led la Furia Roja to victory, has now revealed that he was always confident that his side would win the title and gave full credit to the team.

"It was the players who won it, they take the credit. I knew that we would win the European Championships, I believed in my people," he proclaimed to Marca.

"There were people who were showing it more than me, but that doesn't mean that I was not happy. It was four years of work. There were many good and bad moments. Although I didn't show it, I felt a great inner joy."

Aragones was replaced by Vicente del Bosque after the tournament, and the veteran coach paid tribute to the former Real Madrid trainer.

"He's doing things intelligently. I think that Spain are more Spanish with four men in midfield."
