Real Madrid Will Battle Barcelona To Sign Cesc Fabregas From Arsenal - Report
Cesc and Wenger have a gentleman's agreement on a June transfer...
Real Madrid are reportedly set to increase their efforts to usurp Barcelona's bid to bring Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas back to Camp Nou, according to AS.
Barca presidential candidate Sandro Rosell is believed to have had informal talks with the Gunner about a possible move to Camp Nou after next year's presidential election and the Spanish publication suggests that Fabregas has a gentleman's agreement with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, allowing him to opt to leave the club after June 30 next year.
Real are currently in negotiations with shirt sponsor Adidas and see the signing of the Nike poster boy, Fabregas, as a bargaining tool in increasing their sponsorship revenue from the sports apparel manufacturer.
Interestingly, Rosell is a former Nike executive who was believed to have been influential in bringing Ronaldinho to Camp Nou in 2003 and his commercial contacts could add further muscle to Barca's attempts to bring Fabregas back to Catalunya.
Madrid made an approach to sign Fabregas during the summer but balked at Arsenal's €60 million asking price but will have to stump up a similar sum to secure the services of the 22-year-old next summer.
