Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo Must Not Rush Back – Barcelona’s Rafael Marquez
The Mexican defender has suffered the same injury in the past and does not believe rehabilitation from it should be hurried...
The Portuguese star is currently sidelined with bruising to a bone in his ankle, and the Barcelona man knows exactly what he is going through.
Having suffered several injuries during his six years at Camp Nou, Marquez is well aware of recovery times, and he has had the same problem Ronaldo is now suffering from.
"It is not simple because it is bruising inside the bone and curing it is difficult. It takes time to recover from that. That was what happened with me," he told Barca's official website.
"I took all the measures possible to play, but it was impossible. It was in the foot with which I kick most - that meant that even training was not possible. Walking hurt at times."
Marquez then reflected on his career and recognised that he has always struggled with knocks. He believes that it is part of his make-up.
"Even when I was in Mexico I picked up muscle injuries a lot. I do not know if it is my build, but I always work hard to prevent them," he continued.
"Last year I suffered two minor injuries and then had the problem with the knee. Sadly, that is the way that I am built. I try everything I can, but at times the body decides. I cannot control that."
