Martin Jol To Tempt Real Madrid’s Royston Drenthe To Ajax
Out-of-favour Drenthe will be asked by the Eredivisie outfit how he would feel about a move back to his native country. Opportunities in the Spanish capital have not been as frequent as the player would have wished...
Martin Jol is hoping that he can tempt Royston Drenthe to return to the Netherlands after it was reported that Real Madrid are preparing to offer him to other clubs.
The Ajax boss is ready to give the left-sided star regular football at the Amsterdam ArenA and could first talk to Los Merengues about a loan deal in January, Cadena SER state.
Drenthe was named on a list of players who Madrid president Florentino Perez sees as expendable.
After joining Los Blancos in 2007, the 22-year-old has yet to prove himself. He has had few chances in his favoured left-wing position, frequently being employed at full-back.
Moving back to the Netherlands on a permanent basis may seem like a backward step to Drenthe, who left Feyenoord after three seasons in the first team at De Kuip.
Though the Rotterdam club tried to persuade the player to stay on loan for a year longer in order to continue his development, he chose to move to Madrid immediately.
Having seen him slip down the pecking order, Jol is hopeful of doing a deal. He will open talks soon to try and beat off competition from a number of other clubs.
