Racing Santander Could Appoint Miguel Angel Portugal As Coach Today - Report
The former Racing coach could be set for a swift return to the club...
Portugal previously coached the Racinguistas during the 2006/07 season and could return to take charge at El Sardinero within the coming days pending both parties reaching an agreement.
Club president Francisco Pernia is understood to have met with former Athletic Bilbao and Espanyol coach Luis Fernandez on Sunday while former Real Zaragoza coach Victor Fernandez was also believed to be in the frame.
However Portugal is believed to be Pernia's first choice and with negotiations not expected to last too long he could be in the job as early as Monday evening or Tuesday morning, with his first game in charge a testing trip to the Bernabeu to take on Real Madrid.
Mandia was sacked last Monday after just four months in the job after a poor start to the season saw Racing sit in 17th position in the Primera Liga with just one win from ten games.
