Real Madrid Can Still Win The Two Most Important Competitions - Emilio Butragueno
Los Blancos must go game by game as they look to lift at least one of the remaining two trophies they are contention for at the end of the season...
Emilio Butragueno is taking an optimistic view of Real Madrid's season, despite their humbling Copa del Rey exit to Alcorcon.
The director of institutional relations has declared that the Primera Division and Champions League titles are still in los Merengues' grasp, although he knows there is a lot of work to be done if they are to win either.
"It's been a difficult week for everyone," he is quoted as saying by AS.
"There are still two competitions left - the two most prestigious. We have to know how to lose and how to win. One competes to win and even more so at Real Madrid, but we know that losing is possible in football, even to a Segunda B side.
"It happens and it must serve as a lesson - the club must be united. The evaluation will be undertaken in May and we will see if we have achieved what we had hoped for.
"[There are] no guarantees that Real Madrid will win titles, but football gives you an opportunity to succeed or fail every few days. Now we have to be solid - we have a great squad and we must go game by game because we have two important weeks ahead of us."
Butragueno also gave his backing to Guti, who has been in more controversy this week after he claimed that he still liked to go out partying in the evenings.
The midfielder has since clarified that the quotes were taken out of context, and Butragueno is happy with the explanation.
"It's sufficient. He has already clarified that the phrase was taken out of a longer answer and the matter is closed."
