Valencia's Ever Banega Working Hard To Earn Argentina Call-Up

The Argentine knows that the team is more important than the individual, and has adjusted his game accordingly...

Ever Banega, Valencia (MARCA)
Valencia midfielder Ever Banega has revealed his disappointment at missing out on the Argentina squad again, declaring that he will continue to work hard with los Che in order to persuade Diego Maradona that he can perform to an international standard.

The 21-year-old told AS that he thought "the chance had come to be able to play" for Argentina against Spain this weekend, but he was disappointed to learn that Maradona looked to other options instead.

Nonetheless, he feels that his game has improved this season as he looks to "win the ball back and quickly give it to those up front" in order to start counterattacks.

Banega is happy in his role of "helping the defence" and insists that he is not "uncomfortable" adopting a more withdrawn role. This is largely down to his belief that he is in the team "to help the collective, which comes before the individual".

The Argentine has featured on a regular basis for los Che this season, and is the only player apart from Juan Mata who has started all ten league fixtures.
