Florent Sinama-Pongolle Aiming To Play Regularly At Atletico Madrid

The French striker says playing regularly gives him more confidence...

Florent Sinama-Pongolle - Atletico

Atletico Madrid striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle has declared that he needs more minutes on the pitch to prove his worth, and said that players gain confidence from matches and scoring goals.

After scoring in the 6-0 second leg Copa del Rey rout against Marbella, the French forward said he is hoping to get the opportunity to continue in the team, but knows he has to oust quality strikers to get there.

"I never doubted my ability, I'm here for a reason. The most difficult step for me was to leave Liverpool and join Recreativo [de Huelva]. That was dangerous, because people were expecting a lot from me. Then I came here and I knew that I could bring many things and always, with more minutes or less, I tried to give my all," he told a press conference.

"For a striker, the more games you play, eqauls the more confidence gained. Right now, I have not had many. Yesterday I scored a goal, but I want this to continue, not end. I have to push a little more and move things forward.

"I have not had many opportunities and eventually when I do people are very demanding, they expect more from you. I knew when I came here there were two strikers who are very, very good and can do many things.

"I'm fine and calm, but I want to score many more goals and show that I am here because of my hard work."
