It's Not The Right Time To Extend Joaquin Caparros' Contract - Athletic Bilbao President

Los Leones have full confidence in their coach, but a contract offer is not imminent...

Joaquin Caparros - Athletic de Bilbao
Athletic Bilbao president Fernando Garcia Macua has revealed that Joaquin Caparros will not be receiving a contract extension just yet.

In an interview with Marca, Macua explained that "the moment has not arrived yet" for an offer to be made, but confirmed that there was "an atmosphere of absolute trust" between the board and the Andalucian coach.

Macua continued by assuring fans that an offer was in the pipeline, "regardless of the results" in the coming months. Athletic have recently found their form again with two consecutive league victories, having suffered a loss of form during October.

"He has a job that is terribly exposed to results," the president mused.

"The wear and tear that permanent exposure to public opinion is clear, and there are times where this can have more of an impact on someone."

Conversely, Macua revealed that a contract offer is more imminent for Fran Yeste, whose current deal expires next June.

"We are going to make a reasonable approach. He is very involved with the club, he wants to stay and we want him to stay. On that basis, I'm sure we will come to an agreement."

Star striker Fernando Llorente and combative midfielder Pablo Orbaiz have both recently renewed their contracts with los Leones.
