Jorge Valdano Gives Guti Reassurances Over Role At Real Madrid - Report
The midfielder had been angling for a move away from the club after being omitted from Manuel Pellegrini's last four squads...
Real Madrid outcast Guti has met with the club's general director, Jorge Valdano, to discuss his future with the club.
Marca reports that the two met over lunch on Wednesday, and that Valdano wants the temperamental midfielder to understand that he is still an important member of los Blancos' squad.
Moreover, he told Guti that the team needed him to return to the level at which he was playing at the start of the season so that coach Manuel Pellegrini had another top class option in the middle of the pitch.
Following a half-time argument in the first leg of los Merengues' Copa del Rey tie against Alcorcon, Pellegrini has omitted Guti from the squad for the last four games.
The drastic move by the Chilean had led the 33-year-old to question his role at the club where he has played for his entire career. His disillusion with his current situation had led to suggestions that Inter would come in with a bid in January.
It now remains to be seen how he will react to the show of confidence from Valdano, as Pellegrini has previously told him that he will be recalled to the first team squad if he applies himself well in training.
