Top 5 Teams With Most Shots (On Target)

Getafe - 22 (3)

Barcelona - 18 (10)

Atletico Madrid - 18 (8)

Malaga - 17 (7)

Real Madrid - 15 (6)

Sevilla - 15 (6)

The three Madrid-based clubs were all highly active infront of goal, but with mixed fortunes. Modest Getafe had more chances to score than any other team with 22 shots, but only a measly three were on goal as they went down 2-0 to Deportivo La Coruna, who also had three shots on target but only needed eight attempts.

In ‘El Derbi Madrileno’, Atletico produced more shots than their celebrated neighbours, Real Madrid, but still went down 3-2. And while Barca had ten shots on target, their city rivals, Espanyol only amassed 11 shots altogether (two on target) against Sporting Gijon.

Top 5 Players With Most Shots (On Target)

Luis Fabiano (Sevilla) - 6 (2)

Karim Benzema (Real Madrid) - 5 (1)

Duda (Malaga) - 5 (0)

Diego Forlan (Atletico Madrid) - 4 (2)

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Barcelona) - 4 (1)

This round’s top five shot-makers appear to have left their shooting boots at home. But that wasn’t the case for these three young guns: Barca’s Pedro had three shots, all on target and two goals. Valencia wide-man Pablo Hernandez also had three shots with all three on target and one goal scored, while Atletico hitman, Sergio Aguero came off the bench and reeled off two attempts, both on the mark, one of which got on the scoreboard.

Most Saves

Iker Casillas (Real Madrid) - 6

Dudu Aouate (Real Mallorca) - 6

Gorka Iraizoz (Athletic Bilbao) - 5

Sergio Aragonenses (Tenerife) - 5

Javier Lopez Vallejo (Real Zaragoza) - 4

Not for the first time, Iker Casillas had to make the most saves in Round 10. He is joined by Dudu Aouate, who despite shipping in four goals against Barcelona, still produced six saves, three of which came in rapid-fire succession in the lead-up to the Blaugrana’s second goal.

 Tenerife 2-2 Malaga

-
This was Tenerife’s first draw of the season and the first time since Matchday Two when they beat Osasuna 2-1 that they have scored more than a goal a game.
- Los Boquerones are still rooted to the foot of the table. They are on a nine-game winless run.
- In addition, Malaga are also bottom of the fairplay table with 36 yellow cards and two red. They had five different players booked in this game, more than any other team in this round.
- Ironically, Tenerife have the top two players with the worst discipline. Roman (six yellow cards) and Ezequiel Luna (four yellow and one red) have six demerit points each.

Getafe 0-2 Deportivo La Coruna

- This was El Geta’s sixth loss of the season, only one less than bottom-feeders, Malaga. In those six defeats, Michel’s side have failed to score in five of them.
- Getafe are now the only team in La Liga who have yet to draw a game after ten rounds.
- Depor only had 31% of possession in this game and nine men on the field by the final whistle.
- Riki and Sergio’s dismissals were the Galicians’ first red cards this season. They had the best fairplay record going into the game but have now dropped to second behind Barcelona.

Barcelona 4-2 Real Mallorca

- Barca have now joined Real Madrid and Mallorca as the only three teams with five wins from five La Liga home games so far this term.
- Lionel Messi, who netted an 87th minute penalty, joins team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the league’s second leading scorer with seven goals.
- Young Pedro scored the Blaugrana’s opening two goals. This was the first time the 22-year-old has struck twice in a single game in the league having netted his first double against Cultural in the Copa del Rey two weeks ago.
- Despite their 100% record at home, Mallorca have yet to win on the road. They have drawn twice and lost three times but this was the first away game this term where they have scored more than once.

Atletico Madrid 2-3 Real Madrid

- Atleti have now gone 10 years and 17 attempts without a win agains the Merengues. Their last victory was back in June 11, 1999 when they won 3-1.
- Despite Atletico’s atrocious start to the season which included four league defeats prior to Saturday’s derby game, this was their first home defeat of the campaign.
- For the second game in a row, Real Madrid had a player sent-off after Sergio Ramos was given his marching orders in the 66th minute.
- The win finally put an end to Los Blancos’ two-game winless spell away from home. They drew with Sporting Gijon 0-0 on Matchday 8 and lost 2-1 at Sevilla on Matchday 6.

Real Valladolid 0-0 Xerez

- This match saw three dismissals but there were 21 players left on the pitch at the final whistle. Xerez defender David Prieto was the only player sent off while the other two red cards were given to both coaches, Jose Luis Mendilibar and Cuco Ziganda.
- Valladolid have only won twice in 21 successive league games stretching back to last season.
- Xerez have not found the back of the net in their last three league games and remain without a single goal scored in all five away matches so far.
- After ten rounds, Xerez have amassed more red cards (four) than goals (three).

Sporting Gijon 1-0 Espanyol

- The Asturians, who last season had the worst defensive record, now boast the joint- third best in the league with just 10 conceded. They have not let in more than one per game in their last seven outings.
- Sporting are now on a five-game undefeated streak, their best unbeaten sequence since 1997 when they went six games without a loss.
- In comparison, this reverse for Espanyol ended their streak of seven successive games without defeat.
- This is the third away game in a row where the Blanc-i-Blau have failed to score.

Racing Santander 0-2 Athletic Bilbao

- The Cantabrians have still yet to win a home game this season. After five outings at El Sardinero, they have lost four and drawn one, the worst home record in the league.
- Juan Carlos Mandia was eventually relieved as coach of Racing, becoming the second managerial casualty this season after Atletico’s Abel Resino.
- This was Athletic’s second league victory in a row after having ended a five-game winless streak against Atletico last weekend.
- It’s also the first time this campaign the Basque outfit have won a game by more than a one-goal margin.

Almeria 2-0 Osasuna

- This was Almeria’s first clean sheet in seven games and the first time this season they have won by more than a one-goal margin.
- Osasuna, who secured a 1-1 home draw with Barcelona last week after the visitors netted an own goal, came unstuck in this round when they scored on own goal themselves through Josetxo.
- The Navarrans have six outfield players (Miguel Flano, Shojaei, Punal, Juanfran, Camunas and Pandiani) who have featured in all 10 games so far, more than any other team. Almeria are second with five outfield players.

Valencia 3-1 Real Zaragoza

- David Villa has now retaken the lead in the Pichichi race with eight goals following his 40th minute strike in this game.
- This is the second time in three league matches that Villa, Pablo and Juan Mata have all scored for Los Che in one game. All three also got on the scoresheet in the 3-0 win at Almeria two weeks ago.
- Zaragoza have by far the toughest series of away games so far this season. They have lost four out of five on the road and they were against Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia.
- Despite scoring only 14 goals in the 10 rounds so far, the Aragons are the only side to have scored in every league game.

Sevilla 3-2 Villarreal

- Luis Fabiano celebrated his 29th birthday on matchday by scoring twice, bringing his tally for the season to five goals.
- The Andalucians have yet to lose at home this term. Their last defeat at the Sanchez Pizjuan was against Real Madrid (4-2) back in late April of this year.
- Villarreal have lost each of their last four meetings with Sevilla.
- The last time the Yellow Submarine beat the Blanquirrojos was back on November 11, 2007. They won 3-2 at El Madrigal and the game unfolded in identical fashion, with Villarreal scoring first, Sevilla netting the next two to make it 1-2, before the hosts scored twice to record a come-from-behind win.
