Cristiano Ronaldo: I Am Not Fit To Play For Portugal In World Cup Play-Offs

Los Blancos and the Seleccao may be embroiled in a tug-of-war for 'CR9', but the ex-Manchester United star has indicated that he cannot play against Bosnia due to his ankle problem...

Real Madrid's spat with Portugal over their calling-up of Cristiano Ronaldo took another twist on Tuesday, when it was revealed that the player himself has said that he is not fit.

The Spanish giants and the Seleccao have continued their public slagging match about the rules and regulations governing injured players. It is clear that nerves are beginning to fray ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.

Portugal are set to take on Bosnia-Herzegovina over two legs for a place in the World Cup finals, and in order to boost morale Ronaldo was called up to the squad.

That move infuriated Madrid as the €94 million star is currently nursing an ankle injury that he aggravated during the last round of international games in October.

While Los Merengues cite FIFA's regulations and Portugal demand that Ronaldo appear for a medical, the 24-year-old has sought to end the drama by stating that he could not participate anyway.

"I am unable to play," Ronaldo is quoted as telling the Portuguese FA by Marca.
