Sevilla Fans Helped Us Beat Villarreal - Coach Manolo Jimenez
He says his side must keep winning...
Los Nervionenses lead early on through Luis Fabiano and although Villarreal managed to lead shortly before the hour thanks to goals from Robert Pires and David Fuster, the lead was short lived as Fabiano and Frederic Kanoute had restored Sevilla's advantage within seven minutes.
"The most important player today has been the fans, because the team lacked rhythm and there was also an accumulation of fatigue. Today we won thanks to the support of the fans," he told a press conference before adding that winning was necessary to maintain their push at the top of tha table..
"If we want to be up there we must win, especially after Real Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Deportivo [La Coruna] all won," he remarked.
Jimenez also called for respect and defended the "difficult job" referees have after a weekend of criticism for the officials in the Primera Division.
"I protest very few plays but the officials must also understand that coaches give 100 per cent to win. We must be more flexible, but should never disrespect the referee," he concluded.
