Real Madrid Have Big Stars, But No Team: Inter's Wesley Sneijder
The former Ajax star has questioned whether the Spanish giant's reckless spending has been beneficial to the team...
Inter playmaker Wesley Sneijder has criticised former club Real Madrid, observing that the capital club have a number of World class players, but are not playing football as a team game.
Sneijder was shipped out to Serie A in the summer as Florentino Perez spent in excess of €250m building a squad of star-studded internationals in an effort to overcome treble-winners Barcelona both domestically and in Europe.
The Dutchman is of the opinion that despite the vast array of talent at coach Manuel Pellegrini’s disposal, Los Blancos are still playing as individuals.
In an interview with Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, he said, “It is possible to sign many great players, but you cannot buy a team.
“A few years ago Chelsea also signed many top players but did not immediately play as a team. The same thing happened with Inter, as we added five new players in the summer.”
The midfielder also said he was unsure of whether he was surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu, and that his future was unclear until the moment the club decided to sell him before the transfer deadline in August.
“At first Real Madrid said they had to sell, then they did not. I thought I would stay. But in the last two weeks of August things changed and I decided to leave.
“I am very happy to be at a club like Inter.”
