I'm Still Not 100 Per Cent Fit - Barcelona Striker Thierry Henry
The cultured attacker has confirmed that he is still struggling with a series of knocks...
Barcelona striker Thierry Henry has revealed that he has still to return to full fitness following a difficult run of injuries, and that he is currently playing through the pain barrier for the Blaugrana.
The Frenchman netted his first goal in nine matches in his sides’ 4-2 over Real Mallorca to go some way to silencing the doubters who had suggested that the 32-year old’s days at the Camp Nou could be numbered.
Henry has been linked with a summer move to MLS side New York Red Bulls, and has been plagued with a series of injury problems since the beginning of the new season. Saturday’s strike against Mallorca was the first time he had found the net in over six months.
Speaking to Barca TV, he admitted, “I’ve always played with a sore knee, I have not been 100 per cent at any time this season. I could not bend either leg, and I have been suffering discomfort.”
In addition, Henry hit back at the journalists who have been heavily critical of his goalscoring exploits.
He blasted, "I read that I have not scored a goal in six months. How can I score when I am on vacation? It is ridiculous."
Henry joined Barcelona in the summer of 2007 for a fee of €16 million from Premier League side Arsenal, and was an integral part of the Catalan side’s treble-winning campaign in 2008/09.
