Gremio Playmaker Souza Covets La Liga Switch

A trio of Spanish sides are thought to be closely monitoring the Brazilian with a view to a switch...

Souza - Grêmio
Gremio’s experienced playmaker Souza has spoken of his joy at being liked with a potential move to the Spanish Primera Division, and it has always been his ambition to play in La Liga.

The 30-year old has spent his entire career in South America apart from a brief spell with French side Paris Saint Germain in 2008, where he made just a handful of appearances before returning to his native Brazil.

However, his previous foray onto European soil has not deterred his hopes of returning to the continent, with Spain his ideal destination.

FutbolMercado states that the player said of a potential switch, “Of course I would like to play in Spain. La Liga is one of the best championships in the world today.

“For me, it would be a great opportunity to play there some day.”

Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, and Villarreal have reportedly scouted the mercurial midfielder with a view to a potential swoop in January, however it is unclear what kind of fee would be involved to bring the former Sao Paulo man across the Atlantic.

Villarreal have had transfer dealings with Gremio recently, having signed Bruno Renan as a 14-year old in 2005, and have since loaned him back to the Tricolor on a two-year deal.
