Atletico Madrid have earmarked Real Zaragoza’s Angel Lafita for a switch to the Vicente Calderon during the winter, according to reports from Spain.

Radio broadcast Cadena SER comments that new coach Quique Sanchez Flores wants to bring in the winger to strengthen Los Colchoneros’ shallow squad for the second half of the season, as they look to drag themselves up the Primera Division table.

Lafita has been embroiled in a tug-of-war between former club Deportivo La Coruna and Zaragoza, with both clubs claiming ownership of the player until a suitable fee was agreed, and eventually the Spanish authorities deemed the 25-year old to be a Zaragoza player, allowing him to start the season with the Aragons.

He has only made four appearances for los Blanquillos, scoring once, but Flores wants to uproot the player once more and bring him to the capital.

Lafita enjoyed a successful season in La Coruna last season, netting regularly from a supporting striker role, and Flores sees his versatility as a key attribute to bolster his midfield options.

Atletico Madrid were defeated by Real Madrid in the derby encounter on Saturday evening, a result that leaves them in the relegation zone after ten matches.
