Pepe believes that Atletico Madrid deserved credit for their attempted comeback in 'El Derbi Madrileno' but felt that Real Madrid deserved the victory.
The Portugal international admitted after the encounter at the Vicente Calderon that the hosts had played well, just not as well as Los Merengues.
"Atletico Madrid should be praised for their performance in the second half, but we played a great game and deserved to win," he was quoted as saying by the club's official website.
Sergio Aguero added to his midweek goals with another effort against Madrid and Pepe revealed that he had his hands full coping with the Argentinian.
"Aguero was in good form and I had to mark him. He is a very strong player," he continued.
"The important thing is that we won and we must now look ahead."
