Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini had confirmed that he was struck by an object thrown from the crowd during his side's win over Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon.
Television cameras picked up Pellegrini clutching his face immediately after Sergio Ramos was sent off, but the nature of the incident was unclear at the time. Speaking to Marca after the match, Pellegrini said, "I believe it was a stone."
"It was not too serious."
After being attended to by club doctors, Pellegrini was able to continue on the touchline for the rest of the match.
