Real Madrid Confirm Cristiano Ronaldo Does Not Need Surgery

The Portuguese star's condition will be re-evaluated in a fortnight...

Real Madrid have allayed the fears of the club's supporters after announcing that Cristiano Ronaldo will not need to have surgery to resolve his ongoing ankle problem.

Reports on Thursday gave rise to the belief that the 24-year-old may need to have an operation on his right ankle, which could rule him out for up to three months. However, los Blancos released a statement on their official website that dismissed these fears.

"The consultation that took place this afternoon in Amsterdam with Dr. Cornelius Nicholas van Dijk has confirmed the diagnosis given by the Real Madrid medical staff, obtained through MRI and CT scans performed in Madrid yesterday, November 4.

"The diagnosis is: the existence of a bone edema in the right ankle and a supernumerary bone that caused the problem previously described, due to the injury suffered on September 30.

"He will continue the treatment that he has been receiving in Madrid and will be re-evaluated by Dr. van Dijk in 15 days time."
