Deportivo La Coruna Coach Lotina Rues Missed Penalty Decision Against Sporting Gijon

He says his team dropped two vital points...

Miguel Angel Lotina - Real Sociedad
Deportivo La Coruna coach Miguel Angel Lotina has said that the failure of referee Perez Burrull to award a penalty to his side in the second minute of their Primera Liga tie with Sporting Gijon, proved costly as the game finished 1-1.

Sporting 'keeper Juan Pablo felled Riki inside the area, in what seemed a definite penalty, but the referee refused the protests and allowed the to continue.

"It was penalty and a sending off. He [Burrull] was a mess last year in a match against Real Madrid, and until he retires I will not respect him, but the penalty has been seen by the whole world. I would be saying the same if we scored 10 and won, but that's not the case," Lotina told a press conference.

Despite not being awarded the penalty, Depor dominated for large periods and took the lead through Niouoi Lassad before the interval, but Diego Castro equalised after the break for Sporting.

He added, "We lost two points. The only attempt that Sporting had they scored, in a game in which we have suffered from a bad decision. I feel we have given away two points."
