Xerez 0-2 Sevilla: Negredo & Luis Fabiano Goals Give Visitors The Win
The Sevillistas get closer to the top of La Liga...
A first-half goal from Alvaro Negredo and a late strike from Luis Fabiano proved the difference as Sevilla bested Xerez 2-0.
The first half did not have too much action in the early stages, as the first chance on goal came only in the 27th minute, when Renan pulled off a flying save to deny Alvaro Negredo's well-placed free-kick.
Xerez almost scored in the 35th minute following Bergatinos' cross from the right, but Maldonado could not direct his header goalwards with no opposition bothering him.
Sevilla broke the deadlock three minutes from the break with a brilliant individual move from Negredo, who picked up a long back near the edge of the box before flicking it over a defender and heading past Renan.
The visitors began the second half the brighter and could have scored in the 50th minute, when Negredo's drilled shot was deflected by Aythami, forcing Renan to stretch himself to get to it.
Sevilla were living dangerously at this point, and they were opening too many spaces for Xerez, who almost scored in the 62nd minute but Francis' shot from inside the box was blocked Squillaci.
The hosts could have equalised in the 85th minute, when a free-kick from the right was aimed at the centre of the Sevilla box, where Gioda's header was denied by Javier Varas with a great save.
Sevilla would score their second of the night one minute from stoppage time, when Navas unleashed a through ball to Luis Fabiano, who sent it past Renan.
