Player Ratings: Real Madrid 2-0 Getafe

Goal.com's Ewan Macdonald rates the individual performers on show at the Santiago Bernabeu...

Marcelo, Higuain, Mario, Real Madrid, Getafe (MARCA)
REAL MADRID (4-2-3-1; 4-4-1)

Casillas - 7.5: Had very little to do but did it well.

Sergio Ramos - 8: A very encouraging performance that saw him cover his usual amount of ground, but still keep Mane and Manu mostly shackled.

Pepe - 7: The occasional blip of concentration did not detract too much from a positive showing.

Albiol - 5.5: Did not actually look too uncomfortable until his faintly ludicrous red card, but even though the sending-off was harsh he still carried out the foul that led to it.

Arbeloa - 6.5: An average performance from the former Liverpool man, who improved when shifted across the back line in the second period.

Lassana Diarra - 8: Earned his stripes defensively with excellent tackles and clearances, and otherwise harried well in midfield.

Xabi Alonso - 7.5: Some very inventive play, and although his defence and set-piece deliveries were mixed he can be pleased with his day's work.

Higuain - 9: Two brilliantly taken goals from the Argentine, who knew just when to cut in from a wide position. Raul might just have to wait for his return to the side...

Kaka - 7.5: Grew as the game wore on and was unfortunate not to find himself on the scoresheet. The further forward he plays, the better he looks - but he tracks back, as well. A deceptively accomplished showing.

Marcelo - 6: A poor, petulant first period - he looked more comfortable in the second but was not up to scratch compared to the rest of the team.

Benzema - 7: Removed after 60 minutes for Fernando Gago as Madrid began to operate a bit more defensively, having failed to impress in the second half after a positive first.

Substitutes

Fernando Gago - 7: Showed plenty of energy during his 30 minutes on the pitch.

Raul - 7

Van der Vaart - N/A

GETAFE (4-2-3-1)

Ustari - 7: Made a couple of fine reflex stops in the first half and was blameless for Madrid's goals. But he was very, very poor at corners, and this hurts his mark.

Miguel Torres - 4.5: A horror show of a first half saw him beaten time and again near the touchline. As play moved more centrally in the second period he recovered slightly.

Cata Diaz - 7: The best of the back line by some way, Cata was especially excellent in the opening 45 and remained confident in the second, although he was partially culpable for the first goal.

Mario - 4: Missed his cue dreadfully for Higuain's opener and did not appear to be brilliant before that. Straying off his man for the second was unforgivable. Looked out of his depth, frankly.

Mane - 6: Couldn't quite stamp his authority on the game despite Madrid's right flank being very advanced. Some decent deep crosses, though.

Boateng - 7: Lacked a bit of killer instinct on the ball but broke up Madrid's play nicely and played the simple pass when needed.

Celestini - 6: An average performance and one that saw him drift out of play in the second half. Could not hold possession long enough.

Pedro Leon - 8: As always, the little Murcian engine was ticking over for his entire match,

Parejo - 6.5: The occasional decent threaded ball was not enough to turn the tide in this particular encounter.

Manu del Moral - 6: Carved out a fine solo effort in the first period but hooked on the hour mark as he failed to keep tabs on the flank.

Soldado - 6.5: Positioned himself well but carelessness in the finish - especially with that free header not long after the second goal - saw him lack his usual effectiveness.

Substitutes

Albin - 6.5: The occasional glimpse of his creativity didn't help his side out too much.

Gavilan - 6.5

Adrian - 6
