Iker Casillas: No Need For Concern At Real Madrid
The shot-stopper reckons that his big-spending side need to be given more time to prove their worth...
Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has insisted that there is no need for panic at the Santiago Bernabeu, despite Manuel Pellegrini’s side slumping to a goalless draw with Sporting Gijon on Saturday evening.
Despite having the majority of possession and chances on goal, Los Blancos were unable to break down a stubborn Sporting backline, and to compound their misery a number of first-team stars, including Xabi Alonso and Pepe, sustained injuries in the stalemate.
Casillas however insists that the squad are still getting to know each other following the influx of new faces during the close season, and is certain that when all members of the side are fit, the club can prosper.
He told journalists at the post-match press conference, “Everything is debatable. The team is still in the process, and the work of Florentino [Perez] has been commendable, he has bought great players but we have only been together for two months.
“Perhaps we have been affected a little by the injuries that we have had, but we are prepared to resolve the situation, knowing that there are other teams closing in on us,” he added.
Madrid’s biggest rivals, Barcelona can reclaim sole possession of the summit of the Primera Division by defeating Real Zaragoza this evening.
