La Liga Team Of The Week: Round 7

Goals, saves, shots, tackles and so much more in the seventh round of matches in la Primera and the best eleven have been chosen from all of the action...

Raul, Xabi ALonso, Real Madrid, Valladolid (MARCA)
BEST XI

Formation: 4-3-3

Goalkeeper

Victor Valdes (Barcelona): The Blaugrana have claimed in unison that the draw they earned against Valencia should be seen as a point won and not as two lost and it was thanks to their keeper that snatching a point was possible. An early save from Pablo and another towards the end saw the Barca custodian answer his critics in style.

Defenders

Manuel Pablo (Deportivo): Deportivo needed to send a message that they were on their way back and the inspirational veteran defender led the way as the Galicians did just that against the Andalucian high fliers.

David Prieto (Xerez): After going behind early on, the home team could have folded against Villarreal, but instead a comeback was mounted based on a defensive line led by the on-loan Sevilla centre-back. His tenacity in the air and on the ground paced the way for a memorable victory.

Nicolas Pareja (Espanyol): The Barcelona based outfit's central defenders will come under scrutiny this term after the death of Dani Jarque and the Argentinian can be proud that he more than justified his summer signing from Anderlecht with an influential display in the win against Tenerife on Sunday.

Domingo Cisma (Almeria): After rising through the ranks at Atletico Madrid, the 27-year-old has returned from a season on loan at Numancia and at last looks to be set to earn a regular place in Hugo Sanchez's team as his goalscoring display in the win at Malaga proved.

Midfielders

Miguel de las Cuevas (Sporting Gijon): The playmaker is named in the Team of the Week for the second round running as his individual efforts at San Mames gave the Asturians victory and lifted them into seventh place. A great free-kick and stunning second saw him earn the headlines.

Emilio Viqueira (Xerez)
: Experience was always going to be key to the Andalucians being able to compete at the highest level and the 35-year-old midfielder's poise and vision saw him stand out on Sunday as Xerez moved off the foot of the table with a victory over fellow strugglers Villarreal.

Javier Camunas (Osasuna): The 29-year-old has rarely shone in la Primera, but his performance against Atletico Madrid on Sunday saw people sit up and take notice. His crossing from the flank supplied several chances and set up Pandiani with his accurate centres to nod Osasuna into a commanding lead.

Forwards

Raul (Real Madrid): Having seen his position in the team questioned in recent weeks, the club captain produced a memorable display as he netted twice for the hosts in the win against Real Valladolid. Playing in his record-breaking 711th game, the striker proved that he still has what it takes.

Ivan Alonso (Espanyol): In a week that has been shrouded in controversy at the club surrounding the future of Raul Tamudo, Ivan Alonso was asked to step forward and he produced a superb front line display scoring both goals as Espanyol returned to winning ways against Tenerife.

Walter Pandiani (Osasuna): Atletico Madrid's defence may have been in a generous mood, but the Uruguayan showed them little mercy as his aerial prowess came to the fore with two firm headers that put the game beyond doubt early on. Could have had more in a tireless display on Sunday evening.
