Villarreal Must Not Think About The Primera Division Standings - Cani
The midfielder is confident his side can get out of their current predicament, but they need to stop thinking about the table at this early stage of the season. Indeed, he even pointed out that a run of wins could have them pushing for the top places in the league...
The 28-year-old added that the team must not think about the league table. According to the Zaragoza-born player, doing that would only make them more nervous as they chase their first victory of the season.
"We are in a situation where we need to stop thinking about the situation higher up in the league table because we could get anxious," he explained to AS.
"It's necessary to go step by step, climbing up the table and confronting the situation. There will be time to think about bigger things."
Cani went on to say that it is "obvious" the side are currently "not even close" to last year's level.
Villarreal are one of only two sides not to have won in the league this year - the other team are Xerez, who are widely expected to be relegated this season.
Nevertheless, Cani believes that if Villarreal can "win the next three games" then they "could be near the top of the league".
