Zinedine Zidane, currently serving in an advisory role to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, has told French radio that he hopes Franck Ribery will leave Bayern Munich for the Spanish side.

"I hope that Real Madrid can sign Franck - that's my wish," Zidane told RTL in an interview hosted by his former international team-mate Bixente Lizarazu.

"Now the season has started, he should be left to play for Bayern. But hopefully he will be able to sign."

The French national team have been going through some difficult moments recently and must go through the play-offs in order to qualify for the World Cup.

However, Zidane feels les Bleus must take heart from the transformation of Spain from perennial international bridesmaids into European Champions.

"I can say the same thing with France as I said with Spain - they have always seemed a good team to me, with good players but had never won anything.

"I said one day, Spain will reach the top. Then they won [Euro 2008], and this brought confidence," he concluded.
