I Chose Milan Over Barcelona & Manchester United - Andriy Shevchenko
The veteran forward has confessed that he has no regrets about his career, indicating he is delighted with the path it has taken..
Andriy Shevchenko has revealed that he chose to join Italian giants Milan ahead of Barcelona and Manchester United.
The Ukrainian striker could have played for any of Europe's top clubs after making his name with Dynamo Kiev but he is pleased that he plumped for the San Siro side.
Now back in Kiev with his formative team, Shevchenko explained that he has enjoyed his career and is delighted to be back where it all began.
“I had opportunities to go to Barcelona and Manchester United when I was 22, but I chose AC Milan,” he told Focus magazine.
“And the club were successful, winning everything possible - including the Champions League - and I won the Ballon d'Or. I'm proud of my career.
“All my best years have been played. I knew it was time to return. Now I'm happy and just want to play football.
“Nothing lasts forever. I'm 33 and I don't know how long I'll be fit enough to play. But for the final few years of my career I want to be on the pitch where I started my career. So I thought, 'This is not the sunset,' and decided to continue.
“I could have chosen from five or six European clubs, but didn't even consider these options seriously. Early in my career I had built a clear pattern: Dynamo - AC Milan - Chelsea - Dynamo.”
