Repeating Last Season Is Impossible – Barcelona’s Gerard Pique
Although the central defender thinks that more success will come to the Blaugrana, he doesn't think it's possible to match last season's phenomenal treble...
Gerard Pique believes that it is impossible for Barcelona to repeat last year's success and thinks that the team must remain humble in order to continue winning.
The Catalan defender has become a key figure in Pep Guardiola's side and agrees with the coach when he says that everyone must forget about the season past.
"We have to try again, but Guardiola is right when he says that we cannot improve and that we have to forget about any comparisons with last season," Pique told Sport.
"It is impossible to complete another year like the last one. We have to keep our feet on the ground in order to touch the sky."
Barcelona faced some defensive sides last season, but none achieved the levels of negativity that Almeria managed last weekend in Camp Nou, when they did not have one shot at Barca's goal.
"I do not think that what Almeria did many other teams will do, but it is obvious that our opponents fear us and go out to play ready to give everything," Pique continued.
"I could say that this year the players are not going to have it as easy out there."
Pique was then asked whether he felt the league title race was between Barcelona and Real Madrid, a suggestion he quickly rubbished.
"Valencia too. The game in Mestalla will be complicated," he stated.
"This is not going to be about Barca and Madrid because there are a lot of very good teams in the league."
