As Carles Puyol continues to stall on signing a new contract with Barcelona, 'keeper Victor Valdes has reiterated his belief that the captain should renew his deal.
"I hope that Puyol can be our captain for many years," Valdes explained to Radio Marca.
"I want him to renew. What's more, he is an example for the entire cantera."
Valdes added that Lionel Messi is a crucial part of the Blaugrana side, and after he recently renewed his deal with the club, the shot stopper hopes that the Argentine star will stay at the Camp Nou for a long time.
"It's a pleasure that Messi plays at Barcelona. He is a footballer with great quality and I hope that he stays here for years."
Despite some good form for the Spanish champions, Valdes has been unable to break into Vicente del Bosque's Spain squad. However, he insists that "there are some great goalkeepers in Spain and it's not something that bothers me at the moment."
