Andres Iniesta Hopeful Of Signing Improved Contract With Barcelona

He is not making demands on the club but waiting for them to come to him...

Full speed ahead Rome! Andres Iniesta fires Barcelona into the 2009 Champions League final as Chelsea miss out
Andres Iniesta has revealed that he doesn't know if there is a contract extension forthcoming, but he would like to extend his stay at Barcelona if they recognise his value to the team.

"I have never asked the club for anything - it's the club that get in contact with me and then, when an agreement is reached, I'll do it," Iniesta told AS when he was asked about a new contract.

"I don't know if I'll sign an improved deal in the next few days, but I believe it's particularly good that the club values its players, not only those who have come from elsewhere.

"If they give me an improvement, it would be welcome. The most important thing is that the club knows what I have done for them. Both parties must be in agreement, but I don't think there will be any problems."

Iniesta played through an injury to take part in last year's Champions League final, in which seven players from the Blaugrana's cantera took part.

The 25-year-old is one of a handful of players currently involved in contract talks. Carles Puyol and Rafael Marquez are being urged to renew, while Pep Guardiola is waiting to see the outcome of the next set of presidential elections before putting pen to paper on a new deal.
