Madrid were always likely to beat Xerez, but they did not make it easy for themselves...Raul Albiol was pleased that Real Madrid were able to add to their early goal with some late efforts to put some gloss on their win against a brave Xerez outfit on Sunday.
The Spain international defender admitted that Los Merengues were not at their best as they edged to the top of the table with a comfortable victory in the Santiago Bernabeu.
Xerez offered little going forward and Albiol was able to have a comfortable outing and he was happy that the team picked up all three points.
“I am pleased with the victory. Perhaps we didn't play to our best ability, but the score was lopsided and I am happy because of it," he told the club's official website.
“The team is in good form. We were ahead after the first minute, although it did make us relax a little. Xerez played very well and we couldn't score again until the 75th minute.
“The most positive aspect about the match is that we scored many goals despite not playing our best.
“Playing every three days is great because it means there is a lot of football. We don't have much time between matches, so let's see how quickly we can recover.”
