Malaga 1-2 Racing Santander: Arana & Morris Help Racinguistas Beat Hosts
Racing secured three important points away from home...
The match began with Racing Santander the brighter as they were first to create danger, when on seven minutes Geijo found himself with plenty of room in the middle and tried his luck from 25 yards out but his low drive went wide of the post.
Played at a very slow pace, the match would only register another chance on goal in the 32nd minute. Luque aimed the corner at the near post, Juanito headed it into the middle of the six-yard box and Baha, with only the keeper to beat, could not connect to the ball cleanly and saw it go over the bar.
Racing responded right after, as Pinillo's cross from the right found Munitis' head but the effort went just inches wide of the right post of Tono's goal.
The visitors would find the back of the net in the same minute. Geijo did well to dart past two defenders before sending a through pass to Arana, who outran his defender and send the ball past Tono to give his team the lead.
In the second period, Malaga started better and could have scored in the 50th minute. A long ball reached Racing's area, where Henrique tried to play it to his keeper but he timed his header wrong, allowing Obinna to pick it up, but the Nigerian's cross to Baha was poor as the ball went out of play.
Malaga were determined to level terms, replacing Luque with Edinho on 66 minutes, and the Portuguese frontman took just one minute to have his say after being played through by Juanito but his shot went wide.
The hosts finally equalised in the 71st minute through Duda, when he curled an excellent free-kick past Tono and into the top corner.
However, Malaga had little time to celebrate as Racing got the lead once again just eight minutes later, when Morris rose unmarked to head home a Lacen free-kick.
The home side still tried to score their second of the night, and had two good chances to do so, but they always found a Racing man in the way of their shots.
