Real Madrid have revealed that Xabi Alonso will be out for ten days and that Christoph Metzelder is facing two to three weeks on the sidelines.
Debate has raged about how much Manuel Pellegrini's team would miss their midfield playmaker after he received a blow to the ankle against Zurich in midweek.
Madrid have explained that Alonso's injury is not as serious as first thought and the recovery time for the former Liverpool midfielder will be less than the fortnight originally expected.
"Alonso has severely bruised triceps surae with affectation of the fascia of the soleus muscle of the right leg. Out between seven and ten days," the diagnosis on the club's official website read.
Metzelder has also been sidelined with a knock and that has set back his chances of claiming a regular place in the team.
"He has a Grade I soleus muscle injury and bruised right calf muscle. Estimated recovery time is between two and three weeks," the club's medical services explained.
