Alvaro Arbeloa does not think that Real Madrid can start to think about winning trophies so early in the season and is only focused on playing Xerez at the weekend.
The former Liverpool full-back is aware of the high expectations suffocating Manuel Pellegrini's squad this term after a summer of big spending, but he was not going to start making predictions.
Xerez visit at the weekend for a game that Madrid are expected to win and it is this kind of encounter that Arbeloa does not want the team to slip up in.
"It’s too soon to talk about that [winning trophies] because we’ve just started the season. Obviously, people are excited about what Barcelona did last year;" he was quoted as saying by the club's official website.
"The players want to do something important more than anyone else, but we’re aware of the difficult times ahead.
"Xerez won’t make things easy for us. We must keep on improving. Since we’re playing at our stadium we have to give 100 per cent, keep possession of the ball and attack constantly, but we can’t relax because Xerez are a good team."
The title race has been tipped to once again be between Madrid and Barcelona, but Arbeloa thinks that nothing can be taken for granted and other teams will be involved.
"It doesn’t depend on Real Madrid or Barcelona but on Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Villarreal. They are great teams and will fight for the top spots of the table if they prove their quality," he added.
