Renan is not afraid of facing Cristiano Ronaldo when Xerez take on Real Madrid on Sunday, and he will not shirk the responsibility of stopping the Portuguese's free kicks.
The Brazilian 'keeper saw the world's most expensive player score twice from set pieces in midweek and knows that he could be in line for more of the same in the Santiago Bernabeu.
Despite that, Renan is not be looking for any favours from Ronaldo and does not expect any either.
"I will not ask for mercy nor am I going to have to be brave," he was quoted as saying by AS. "He'll do his job and I mine. I need to fully concentrate. He is a great specialist and has already scored many goals from free kicks."
Iker Casillas has complained about the lightness and irregularities of the new Champions League balls, and Renan agrees that manufacturers do make things more difficult for keepers.
"Since I started playing, every year we change the ball and it's always better for the striker. They make it more difficult for the goalkeeper every year. But you become used to it," he added.
